Can we all please take a moment to appreciate Hagrid here? Seriously, everyone always talks about how Harry has no father figure and how terrible it was for Sirius to die because now Harry’s all alone (dont get me wrong, Sirius is my favorite character) but honestly, Hagrid is the best father Harry ever had. He did so much for him, and no one, sometimes not even Harry realizes that. Hagrid gets no where near the mount of credit he deserves. Take a minute and try to imagine where Harry would be with out him and you’ll understand what im talking about.

I think JKR said it was really important to her that Hagrid carried him out of the forest, because he carried him to safety when he was a baby. Hagrid has been there since the beginning, and he was also there at the culmination of Harry’s journey. He’s always cared SO MUCH and been really open with Harry for the most part, which is something Harry needs since people tend to keep secrets from him. Yeah, he’s irresponsible with the monsters, but all of Harry’s father figures were pretty irresponisble, and Hagrid was definitely like, the most solid and reliable out of all of them. And he never left.

Hagrid was also most like a parent in his correction of Harry. For Sirius and Molly, Harry could do no wrong. Dumbledore saw Harry’s flaws, but he depended on them for his own plans to work.

But Hagrid saw Harry for exactly who he was, good and bad. He was the first to publicly defend Harry’s innocence anytime he got blamed for something he didn’t do; but he was also the first to call Harry out on his treatment of Hermione in PoA. He is consistently honest and forthright in addressing Harry’s behaviour and choices, and always acts in the way he believes will be best for Harry’s growth and especially for his moral development.

Harry is the man he is because of Hagrid. No one else did that for him.

Was she going to slap you because you never in any way made him gay in the actual books, taking zero risks/doing absolutely nothing for gay characters in literature, and only announcing your “authorial intent” afterwards for a cheap shot at looking like an ~ally~

Gay people are just normal people. We are not told about any of the Hogwarts professors love lives, other than Snape, and it would be completely out of character for Dumbledore to walk around telling everyone about his sexuality.

Did you want her to make him dress in glittery platform boots, a crop top, and decorate his office in rainbow flags to make it more obvious for you? Would that be enough of a stereotype to appease you people? Or what? Please tell me. I’d like to know how you think a gay character is supposed to be portrayed.

And did you miss the Grindelwald chapters in the ‘actual books’? Or was that also not obvious enough for you? Did Dumbledore need to whisper “always” wistfully in order for you to connect that he had romantic feelings for Grindelwald? Maybe you are American and need them to gaze longingly into each others eyes with awkward close ups of their fingers almost grazing each other that Hollywood thinks means ‘true love’. 

It didn’t fit into his relationship to Harry to ever say “I’m gay”, and so it was not stated explicitly (you might have noticed the book was told from Harry Potter’s perspective).

The point is though, that he is a homosexual, well respected, powerful, and very loved wizard- and his sexuality doesn’t matter because no one else thinks it matters. a.k.a. no one care that he loves men, and that is wonderful.

JK Rowling painstakingly planned out massive amounts of the HP World and plenty of that detail didn’t even go into the books because it didn’t have any bearing on the plot or Harry’s narrative.

When a fan asked her about this aspect of Dumbledore’s character, she answered. I’m at the point where I’m convinced that people would have found excuses to accuse her of being a bad ally no matter when or where or how she disclosed this detail. Is she also a shitty advocate for AIDS victims because she didn’t reveal until years after Prizoner of Azkaban’s book release that she was using the werewolf condition as a metaphor for AIDS? Does it mean that she’s insensitive because she’s never talked about the very highly probability of Luna Lovegood’s psychology falling somewhere along the Austism Spectrum? The HP books are on the shelves, and can be read and re-read whenever you want, and I think she’s doing people a favor by giving out more information from her imagination because it means people can do back and appreciate the text on different levels.

Okay, I’m having a moment. Let me have a minute to get over this video. Shit I mean … This nearly killed me. I often type into my tags that I’m crying but this time I really mean it. Hp has been over for a year now and I still think that it’s the best damn thing that ever happened to me. And it will never truly end for me. Because I’m sitting here crying over these characters, over this fantastic series which gave me so much. Harry Potter was the first book I’ve ever read and it changed me. Whenever I watch this I forget it’s Daniel Radcliffe playing a bunch of other people and not a bunch of other people dressed as Daniel Radcliffe.

yeah, it really is sort of frightening how he literally becomes the other characters.

Daniel Radcliffe = talent.

You know, I’d never actually noticed this. Especially in the first gif he looks so much like the characters he’s imitating - the Fleur and Hermione Harrys are absolutely spot on. Even the way Hermione!Harry breathes is just like the actual Hermione.
